Why Greenlytes recommends it

Efficient area lighting that gets brighter when activity begins.

The SSL-10 combines automatic dusk-to-dawn operation with motion-responsive output, making it a practical choice for smaller outdoor areas where running electrical cable would be inconvenient or expensive.

1

Automatic dusk-to-dawn operation

The built-in light control switches the fixture on after dark and off again in daylight, so routine nighttime operation does not depend on a timer or manual switch.

2

11.1V 6000mAh Li-ion battery

A 15-watt polycrystalline solar panel charges the built-in 11.1V 6000mAh lithium-ion battery, giving the fixture a self-contained energy system for overnight use.

3

No trenching or grid wiring

The self-contained solar design avoids underground electrical cable. It can be mounted on a wall or suitable pole, making it especially useful where extending mains power is impractical.

4

Designed for lower mounting heights

Recommended installation is approximately 6–13 ft high, while the PIR sensor can detect movement from roughly 16–33 ft away. Those ranges help when positioning the fixture around entrances, driveways and other active outdoor zones.

01 Is 1,700 lumens bright enough for outdoor area lighting?

At its 1,700-lumen high setting, the SSL-10 is intended for localized outdoor illumination rather than broad, high-output area lighting. It can be a practical fit for entrances, driveways, courtyards and other defined zones where the light can be positioned close to the area being illuminated.

Lumens describe total light output, not how much light ultimately reaches a particular point on the ground. Mounting height, beam distribution, distance, surrounding surfaces and obstructions all affect the result.

Greenlytes insight Before comparing fixtures by wattage alone, read our guide to outdoor solar-lighting lumens.
02 How much area does the 10-Watt Solar Street Light cover?

Coverage depends on mounting height and the surface being illuminated. At around a 10 ft mounting height, a practical reference is roughly 10–12 ft of illuminated width, but the useful area will vary with site conditions and the brightness level you expect.

For a parking area, plan around the actual space rather than assuming that one fixture will evenly illuminate an entire lot.

Greenlytes insight For larger areas, compare this model with the other fixtures in our Solar Parking Lot Lights collection.
03 How high should I mount the SSL-10?

Recommended mounting height is approximately 6–13 ft (2–4 m). Mounting higher increases the area reached by the light but generally reduces the intensity perceived on the ground, while mounting lower concentrates the light over a smaller area.

For installations using multiple fixtures, spacing, mounting height and the geometry of the site should be considered together.

04 Does the SSL-10 stay on all night or only when motion is detected?

The SSL-10 is designed to remain illuminated after dark rather than staying off until someone approaches. Motion detection temporarily increases the light output, then the fixture returns to its lower nighttime level after activity has passed.

This gives you continuous nighttime visibility together with additional brightness when a person or vehicle enters the sensor range.

05 Will the SSL-10 work through cloudy weather?

Yes, but cloudy conditions reduce the amount of solar energy available for recharging. After a full charge, expected nighttime runtime is approximately 8–12 hours, while repeated low-sun days can progressively reduce the available operating time.

One to two days without strong direct sun may still be possible under favorable conditions, but consecutive cloudy days, winter sun angles, shade and frequent motion activation can shorten runtime.

Greenlytes insight If seasonal performance matters at your site, see Will Solar Lights Work in Winter? for the variables that affect charging and runtime.
06 Can I mount it on a wall instead of a pole?

Yes. The SSL-10 can be installed on a suitable wall or pole, so it is not limited to a dedicated street-light pole. This can be useful beside a building, driveway, courtyard or entrance where a structurally sound mounting surface is already available.

For pole installation, confirm the diameter and mounting hardware before ordering. The compatible mounting arrangement can accommodate round or square poles up to approximately 3.25 inches.

07 Do I need an electrician or underground wiring to install it?

The fixture does not need a connection to the electrical grid, so there is no normal requirement to trench a power cable from a building to the light. Installation instead centers on choosing a secure mounting point with adequate solar exposure.

A professional may still be appropriate when a new pole, structural mounting work or site-specific safety requirements are involved, but the light itself does not require mains electrical service.

08 Is the SSL-10 the right choice for a commercial parking lot?

It can be useful for localized commercial areas, entrances, smaller lots and supplementary lighting, but a single 10W fixture should not automatically be assumed to satisfy the lighting requirements of a full commercial parking lot. Larger sites may need higher-output fixtures, multiple poles or a professionally designed layout.

If a project has required minimum light levels, uniformity targets, security requirements or local-code obligations, those requirements should determine fixture selection and spacing.
