Why Greenlytes recommends it

More output and solar reserve for larger outdoor zones.

The SSL-20 steps up from compact area lighting with a 2,200-lumen high mode, a 25-watt solar panel and 120Wh battery capacity. It is a stronger fit for parking areas, private roads and other sites where useful coverage and off-grid operation both matter.

1

Automatic dusk-to-dawn operation

Smart Sense handles routine nighttime operation automatically, keeping the light on at its lower level after dark and raising output when movement is detected.

2

120Wh lithium battery + 25W solar panel

The 25W 18V polycrystalline panel charges a 120Wh lithium-ion battery, with documented backup autonomy of up to 48 hours under suitable charging and operating conditions.

3

No trenching or grid-power connection

The integrated solar design removes the need to run electrical service to the fixture. Wall and pole mounting hardware is included; the support pole itself is not.

4

IP65 housing for exposed outdoor sites

Powder-coated cast aluminum with ABS components and an IP65 rating provide a weather-resistant enclosure for normal outdoor installations across parking, roadway and property-lighting uses.

01 Is 2,200 lumens enough for a parking area?

The SSL-20 reaches about 2,200 lumens when motion is detected, making it a stronger option for localized parking areas, entrances and traffic zones than lower-output accent or pathway lights. Whether that is enough for a particular site depends on the size and layout of the area, mounting height and the light level required at the ground.

For a full commercial parking lot, fixture count and placement should be based on the site's lighting requirements rather than lumen output alone.

Greenlytes insightUse our outdoor solar-lighting lumen guide to understand why total lumens are only one part of sizing a lighting system.
02 How far apart should SSL-20 lights be installed?

A reference spacing of more than 12 meters, or about 40 feet, is documented for this fixture. That figure is useful for initial planning, but it should not be treated as a universal spacing rule.

Required spacing changes with mounting height, site geometry, obstacles, desired uniformity and the amount of illumination needed between fixtures.

Greenlytes insightFor larger projects, compare the available outputs in our Solar Parking Lot Lights collection before deciding fixture count.
03 How high should the 20-Watt Solar Street Light be mounted?

The recommended mounting range is approximately 3–5 meters (10–16 ft). Within that range, a lower installation concentrates the light over a smaller zone while a higher position can spread it over a broader area with less intensity at any one point.

The final height should also preserve useful PIR sensor coverage and provide a structurally secure installation.

04 Does the SSL-20 stay on all night or only when motion is detected?

The SSL-20 is designed to illuminate automatically after dark at its lower output rather than remaining off until movement occurs. When the PIR sensor detects activity, the fixture increases to its brighter mode and then returns to normal nighttime output after the activity subsides.

This combines continuous background visibility with additional light when a person or vehicle approaches.

05 How long does the SSL-20 take to charge, and what happens on cloudy days?

A full charge requires approximately 6–8 hours of strong direct sunlight. The system has documented backup autonomy of up to 48 hours, but actual performance depends on the charge accumulated beforehand, weather, season, shade and how frequently high-output motion mode is triggered.

Several consecutive low-sun days can therefore reduce nighttime runtime even though the fixture has battery reserve.

Greenlytes insightFor seasonal planning, see Will Solar Lights Work in Winter?.
06 What area can the motion sensor detect?

The PIR sensor has a documented detection distance of approximately 16–33 ft with a detection angle below 140 degrees. Actual detection can vary with mounting height, approach direction, temperature and site conditions.

The light itself has a 120-degree beam angle, so motion-detection range and illuminated coverage should be treated as separate specifications.

07 Can the SSL-20 mount to a wall or an existing pole?

Yes. The fixture includes wall and pole mounting hardware and can be mounted to a suitable wall, siding or pole. Compatible pole mounting extends to approximately 3.25 inches for round or square poles.

The support pole is not included, so an existing compatible pole or a separately sourced pole is required for pole-mounted installations.

08 Do I need an electrician or underground wiring to install it?

The SSL-20 does not require a grid-power connection, so normal installation does not involve trenching an electrical feed to the fixture. Its solar panel, battery, LEDs and control system are integrated into the lighting system.

Professional installation can still be appropriate when a new pole, structural mounting, work at height or site-specific safety requirements are involved.

09 Is the SSL-20 suitable for a full commercial parking lot?

It can be used in parking areas and other commercial outdoor spaces, but the SSL-20 should not be assumed to satisfy an entire parking lot with a predetermined number of fixtures. Commercial projects may have minimum illuminance, uniformity, security or local-code requirements that determine the correct fixture output, pole height and spacing.

For a larger or compliance-sensitive site, use a proper lighting layout or photometric plan before purchasing fixtures.
